SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA REGIONALS PLAYOFF BRACKET

The postseason run towards a state championship for the West Los Angeles College men's basketball team will begin later this week. On Sunday, the Wildcats were named the No. 8 seed for the upcoming Southern California Regional Playoffs.

As a top-8 seed, West LA earned a bye in the opening round and will host the winner of either No. 9 Riverside City College and No. 24 Southwestern College in a second-round game on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. Ticket prices for the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) postseason game are $12 for general admission and $8 for all identified students, faculty, staff, senior citizens age 60 and over, and children under 12 years old.

The Wildcats are making their eighth straight postseason appearance. Under the direction of head coach Anthony Jones, the Wildcats enter the playoffs with a 20-8 overall record and went 10-4 in the Western State South to finish in second place.

Last season, West LA suffered a second-round loss to Chaffey College to end its playoff run. The Wildcats look to return to the state championship tournament after reaching the state semifinals during the 2021-22 season.

No. 9 Riverside brings a 17-11 overall record into its playoff contest at home against No. 24 Southwestern on Wednesday (Feb. 26). Riverside finished tied for second place in the Orange Empire Conference at 9-5. Southwestern went 15-13 during the regular season and was second in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference with an 11-5 mark.

Two wins are needed by the Wildcats to advance to the 3C2A State Championships on March 13-15 at College of the Sequoias in Visalia.
